Who We Are


The Office of Student Community Relations (OSCR), which is under the umbrella of Community Support & Services, takes a holistic approach to supporting all students by looking at not only who or what brought them to us but how their situation is impacting their overall learning experience. OSCR provides advice, referrals, training, alternate dispute resolution methods, judicial processes (local adjudication, tribunals), and critical incident support.  OSCR is also responsible for administering the Code of Student Rights & Responsibilities (The Code).

Through the Office of Student Community Relations (OSCR), students can get the help they need to resolve many issues they may be facing.

We provide:

  • Student leadership opportunities

Supports We Provide

Critical Incident and Personal Crisis Support

We are the University liaison which helps support students, parents/guardians and the community to manage critical incident cases, including, but not limited to:

  • critical illness or injury of a student
  • student death
  • attempted suicide

OSCR supports students impacted by critical incidents, facing personal crisis, or multiple complex issues with a view to fostering a positive learning experience. We collaborate with partners on campus to facilitate student needs. 

Referrals

Supports include contacting students and/or their family and assisting them by arranging appropriate referrals and support, both internal and external to York.

Code of Student Rights & Responsibilities (The Code)

OSCR is committed to fostering student success by upholding the behavioural expectations outlined in the Code of Student Rights & Responsibilities (The Code). OSCR works with students to resolve complaints regarding inappropriate student behaviour. Complaints may be resolved informally or through formal disciplinary processes.
The Code was updated in Fall 2021 to include: gender-neutral pronouns, expanded definitions, improved procedural fairness guidelines, updates to the complaints process, COVID-19 vaccination requirements policy process for students and more.
